Can a basketball referee make any calls (like fouls or anything) on spectators? If so, on what grounds and what are the penalties?|||All that he has the power to do is to have a fan removed from the game for conduct detrimental to the players or fans. It s really security's job to do that though.|||no unless there yellin to them in the stands...|||YES THEY HAVE THE ABLITY TO EJECT ANYONE FROM THE GAME!!!!!!|||If the spectator was in the general direction of any team's bench during the time of the incident, the referee may call a technical foul on that bench.
Hope this helps.|||Yes. The officials have the power to call a technical foul on a team for misconduct by its supporters. The officials can also ask game management to remove a spectator. Most officials will use the latter option when possible because it is difficult to determine which team an unruly spectator is supporting, and calling a technical foul for spectator actions usually makes a bad situation worse. But it is within an official's power to assess a team technical foul for spectator actions.
(Note: This applies to high school and college rules. I do not know NBA rules well enough to know what options officials have for dealing with unruly spectators.)
