  • How much money do basketball players make in Europe?

I have wondered this for a while and just thought someone might know. I am a Utah State basketball fan and I see a lot of the players that play there end up going to Europe to play. Recently Jaycee Carroll went over there and is second in the league in scoring and is top runner for rookie of the year. I'm just curious if players like him make a good living over there. How much money do basketball players make in Europe?

How to get rid of a yellow stain on a white basketball jersey?

Well, without knowing what the stain is, I can't guarantee anything, but Oxi Clean usually removes yellowing.

Try washing the jersey again, but add a scoop or two of Oxi Clean in addition to your detergent.

    Hope this helps.

How are some ways of being more confident when playing a basketball game?

I have never played competative basketball before and I don't want to look bad the first game. How are some ways of being more confident when playing a basketball game?
Some tips... Hmmm... It's clear the confidence comes with training and knowing yourself what you can do/ And the more you can (and even surprise yourself with), the more confidence you gain.

That apart, being very focused on things to do bring you confidence and makes you forget that you maybe aren't confident at the moment. Playing against weaker players or teams sometimes makes the confidence up again too and can be a good remed for a lost confidence. But again training and knowing yourself you can do it better and better is probably the best way ;-)

Hope it helps, my 2 cents. Courage
you just need to play very agressive. Dont go out there and let everybody push you around, be very agressive. Go out there with the attitude that you are no worse than any other player on the court. GOOD LUCK!!How are some ways of being more confident when playing a basketball game?
if you haven't played before, they'll know. but the only way to get better is to play
just have fun.... and dont play so seriously....How are some ways of being more confident when playing a basketball game?
when you play dont think about how not to mess up. think about what you need to do right.
    GET MAD!!!!!!!! lol jp

just be aggresive, dnt show fear and dnt think about being nervous while playing......

also play ur game dnt let the man ur guarding get into ur head.....

    and the #1 rule PRACTICE
ok i played both high school and college basketball in new york the best way to to be confident is to just play the game.

Most people will go out there and have nerves...they wont take a shot because they think the coach will take them out the game.

the first time i played in rucker park in new york ... my coach told me to play and have fun dont worry abotu missing a shot... only two things can happen either you make it or you miss it . No one is going to kill you for missing a shot.

But it always help to you're the best player on the court, think as if you have the most to offer. Stop your man from doing anything..make him fumble the rock, miss shots, block his shots steal the ball from him.

Always player hard them the other team player and they will be scared of you. And when you grab a rebound yell .. I bet they will think you crazy..

i played against ron artest brother a few year back ...damn hes nut he make ron look normal.

How do I get into talking about sports like football or basketball? Is there a place for noobs to learn?

I have no clue and usually most people into sports don't like talking to beginners, since they've been brought up in families that talk about it day and night since they're 1 year old.How do I get into talking about sports like football or basketball?
you have to spend all of you spare time watching sports center and going on espn.com

people that do that really have no life in my opinion

and don't forget the time spent on looking at stats for players and watching all of the games on tvHow do I get into talking about sports like football or basketball?
I'm no sports aficionado, but I've found it helps to get into a tournament or team here and there, and do some research. For instance, I don't give a whit about football, and will never pretend to, but I find the NCAA tournament to be absolutely riveting. So go fill out your bracket (or buy your Red Sox paraphernalia, etc.)--anyone who's not a total jerk won't mock your noob status. I don't mock people who at least make the effort to, say, go to the symphony, even if they confuse Wagner and Mahler. ;)How do I get into talking about sports like football or basketball?

What can I do to improve my basketball skills?

Ive been playing basketball my whole life. I just made the middle school basketball team. Im ok, but not starting material. Does anyone know any drills or things that I can do to become better. What can I do to improve my basketball skills?
Don't stop believing. Keep trying and practicing and you'll be better than the rest of your team! I wanted to improve my basketball skills as well once I got to my high school basketball team. What I did was practice everyday. My routine looked something like this:

    1. Perfect layups both right and left hand.

    2. Jog around your block bouncing your basketball and continuously switch hands.

    3. Play games with a couple of friends such as Horse, Eleven, etc.

    4. Practice shooting the ball around.

    5. Practicing boxing people out. Pretend someones in front of you and try faking your way around practicing to shoot on fast reflexes.

    6. Keep focused!!!!!!!!

ALSO, be aggressive!!! That was one thing I was horrible at! Don't ever say sorry during a game, say it afterwords! I know that sounds harsh but it'll keep your mind focused on the game and your surroundings rather than people's feelings.
The main thing you can do to improve is shoot free throws. This not only helps you at the line, but to get better feel with all your shots. Also, practice dribbling the ball low and quick while looking ahead at the wall. These are just two things you can do, but you'll see results in no more than a week of this. What can I do to improve my basketball skills?

How can I practice basketball without a court or hoop?

I need to practice layups, shooting dribbling and vertical jump. I'm on a basketball team but we only have practice 2 times a week and we always do drills never just hardcore shot training. I really need to get better at all those things. But without a hoop and court how can i do this? How can I practice basketball without a court or hoop?
Having access to a basketball court should never keep you from practicing! Dribbling drills would be the easy answer to your question, however, there are more skill sets you can work on without having a basketball court or gym.

for example if you want to work on shooting and you have access to a wall, you can measure a spot at 10ft and then practice shooting to hit that spot from different areas. Your goal should be to hit the same spot on the wall at the same angle each time you try.....its a lot harder than you may think!

There are still a few things you can do sans court. It never hurts to physically condition yourself so that you'll be stronger, faster, and better when you do play ball on the courts. Improving your endurance is another idea. Dribbling can be practiced anywhere as long as you have a ball - and I doubt you made the team without owning your own ball that you play with. Simply find a good stretch of asphalt or a wooden gym floor and you can practice dribbling in many different ways. Dribbling while jogging, sprinting, with your non-dominant hand, and techniques such as crossovers, behind the back, and spin moves are all options. Shooting and layups are hard to do without a hoop, but you can practice your shooting form with a simple exercise. Lay on your back on a floor and assume the shooting form with your arms. Shoot the ball straight up, making sure that you move your arms in one fluid motion and sort of flick your wrist at the end to ensure a good follow-through.How can I practice basketball without a court or hoop?
Since you don't have access to a hoop or court you should focus on becoming a great ball handler.

You can practice your dribbling anywhere. Do dribbling drills for as long as you can each day.

To increase your vertical jump, just keep practicing your jumping. Measure your vertical on the wall and practice jumping each day until you beat that mark. Then try to beat the new mark you set, and so on.

Check out some of these basketball skills and drills to help you out.

you can just practice dribblingHow can I practice basketball without a court or hoop?
Keep working on your shooting form, just lay down and shoot the ball up in the air.
Just practice the feeling, when you control it,just depend on feeling.

  • How do High School Basketball players get recruited to college?

How do High School Basketball players get recruited to college?Do they play AAU and get recruited from that or they get recruited from high school? How do High School Basketball players get recruited to college?
It depends on what level of college, I would guess that most D-1 recruits play high school basketball and AAU. High School probably gets the most attention because there is a clearly defined high school basketball season with district and state championships but going to big AAU tournaments and doing well can also help a player get recruited. How do High School Basketball players get recruited to college?
AAU and high school are both important. You want t play as many games as possible because this increases your chances of being seen. Playing in games against other high profile players that you know are being watched and recruited is good too because recruiters will get a chance to see you play as well. Some colleges have open practices as well so you could go to those to be seen for sure. Obviously the most important thing to do is to get good!! It doesn't matter how many recruiters see you, if you suck you won't get recruited. How do High School Basketball players get recruited to college?
Most kids who are talented enough to play in college also play AAU ball. I knew a kid in high school who was about a 3 star recruit, and he played both high school and AAU ball, and his recruiters knew about both.

How come I feel pain all over your body after playing basketball?

I have not play basketball in a months, so when I played, the next day I feel sick and pain all over my body. I know it has to do with lack of exercise but is there ways to prevent it? How come I feel pain all over your body after playing basketball?
Well you depleted the oxygen in your muscles, and for two your muscles are not use to working out that hard. So what you need to do is eat food high in iron, gatorade to restore that electrolytes, and keep on working that muscle to make it use to working that hard. And have your wife ride it off.
It's simply a combination of your muscles not being used to working so hard and lactic acid build up. You really need to concentrate on your studies before your recreation. If you do not have a passing GPA you won't play college ball-ever. The main thing to remember is that of the roughly 7000 college NCAA players, only about 45 will play at the pro level each year. There is much more to life than playing ball and the odds are heavily against you going pro. STUDY to become someone that will one day own a pro team. What can i do to improve my basketball skills and improve my jumping?

I have basketball try outs in 4 weeks and i need some advice and tips on improving my basketball dribbling, shooting, and defense skills and how to improve my jumping ability. What can i do to improve my basketball skills and improve my jumping?
when it comes to dribbling i used to do crazy stuff to create muscle memory..

ie.. i used to run in circles while constantly going around my back, and just using one hand, then switching to the other hand and going in the opposite direction.. kind of hard to explain with words.. also just walk around the court dribbling between your legs without missing a beat, and no extra dribbles.. after awhile it becomes second nature, and when placed into that situation you will just react accordingly..

when it comes to defence just keep in mind that whoever you are guarding cannot go anywhere without his hips.. so keep his hips between you and the goal.. the second is always keep one hand down to try to pick off a cross over dribble(if he is dribbling with his right hand, then your right hand should be lower to try to steal the cross over, with your left hand higher to try and pick off the pass)

shooting is the easiest.. practice practice practice.. i used to shoot about 100 layups in a row everytime before i went home.. 50 on each side using the proper hand.. i would also shoot about 100 freethrows, 10 at a time throughout the time i was there.. when it comes to range you don't want to create bad habits, so you want to work on that before you get tired.. find your range, then add more too it, slowly but don't try to force it..

jumping is over rated.. if you just want to dunk, thats fine.. everyone at some point wants to dunk, but in a team sport where there are not alot of fast breaks how often will you get the chance.. i was the leading scorer on every team i ever played, and hated shooting.. if you really want to dunk its not just building strength.. let your heels hang off a step or curb and then work out like that.. push yourself up with just your toes, repeatedly ofcourse.. its the same basic concept of them dunk shoes..What can i do to improve my basketball skills and improve my jumping?
You should have asked this during the start of your summer break. You can't improve much in 4 weeks... All you can do at this point is go in the gym get as many shots up as you can everyday and work on your conditioning.

What is a better basketball team to see between these options?

I'm was looking at basketball tickets for my dad. I was going to surprise him with tickets to the Laker game. I found 2 dates that would be good. Their both on a Friday at 7:30pm. The difference is the teams playing the Lakers. What is a better team to see between Clippers or Sacramento Kings? What is a better basketball team to see between these options?
If you want a game that would be your money's worth, choose the Clippers game. If your dad wants a game that will be a lopsided win by the Lakers, pick the Kings game. Kobe might go off scoring another 81 points during the Kings game, meanwhile at the Clippers game, Kobe might have an all around good game.

    Good luck on your choice!
Clippers are the "younger L.A. brother" to the Lakers and have more young talent than the Kings. The Lakers-Kings rivalry of years past is dead and gone but they still have "bad blood" between each other. ANY Laker game is worth going to.What is a better basketball team to see between these options?
I would say the Clippers. They are an OK team and they are better then the Sacramento kings. It would be more interesting for your father if you bought him the Clippers tickets.
For a better game the kings if he likes when the lakers whoop up on someone the clippersWhat is a better basketball team to see between these options?
The game between the clippers, because it's kind of a rivalry.. but the lakers are going to win
the kings are better than the clippers
I think you should go see the Lakers and Clipper
    Kings
i will say Kings because of their old rivalry

It looks ridiculous, if they weren't rappers and basketball players how would they get a job?? I understand 1 or 2 reasonable tattoos, but they cover their whole body with useless nonsense. Why do Rappers and Basketball players like to cover their whole body up with tattoos?
Usually most athlete and rapers have poor education.

A lot of white people get tattoos like that too. Like especially rocker/motorcycle guys. I can bet there's a higher percentage of whites with tattoos than blacks.
because they can get away with it. its art to them
i know, right? I think a bunch of tattoos on a guy are ugly.
But they ARE rappers and basketball players, so why does it matter?
Because they're rich and people love them.
Rockstars do the same. Sell out.
and i thought that them being black was already like having a whole body tatoo. Sheesh, they cant get enough "Ink" know what im saying?

What is High School Basketball Conditioning and tryouts like?

So I plan to join the Basketball team for highschool, but just the low team. What would conditioning be like, and what are tryouts like? What is High School Basketball Conditioning and tryouts like?
They try to destroy you on the first day, I've seen several young freshman walk off the court during suicides. They just quit. That way the coaches get players that actually want to play, and are somewhat athletic. Unless there's only a few people trying out, then you don't run much because the coaches don't want you to quit.

But mostly, coaches are basically looking to see which kids have some athletic ability, because those ones stand out automatically in the beginning. Just showcase your fundamentals and you'll be fine! What is High School Basketball Conditioning and tryouts like?
My basketball conditioning consisted of . . .

    - 2 mile run

    - shooting and ball handling drills

    - weight lifting

Tryouts lasted about two weeks, with three cuts.

Before the first cut, we ran a bunch of drills just so coach could see what we could do. We had lay up drills, ball handling drills, and rebounding drills. We also did a little shooting.

If we made it past the first cut, then Coach split us into 2 teams, then made us play each other.

After the second cut, he split the players into 2 groups, the group that already made the team, and the group that he wanted to see again. Then he made drills that allowed us to compete with each other. If the person who they were thinking about could keep up with the person that already made the team, it was likely they wouldn't get cut.

Your coach probably won't do the same exact thing. So just do your best and don't forget to have fun.

HOPE IT HELPS. -ehhhm.What is High School Basketball Conditioning and tryouts like?

Why is mens/guys basketball considered more interesting to watch by some people?

I personally enjoy watching mens and womens basketball. I feel though that girls are more interesting. I think that girls play more like team and less individually. Also it seems that guys try to show off more than girls. Maybe they do have a more competitive edge...Which do you enjoy the most and why?Why is mens/guys basketball considered more interesting to watch by some people?
Yeah, I've never watched Women's basketball, but I wont diss you for asking the question. If you like Women's more thats great.

I like men's basketball more. I think it's more explosive and entertaining. I see better plays and *dunks%26lt;%26lt; something that's lacking in womens basketball.

I do watch both men and women's basketball though. I support equally, I just favor one. :D
cuz men basketball is more intense and more physical.

girl basketball is not fun to watch for me especially in high school or middle school they only score like 20+.

Work on ball handling and layupsWhat is a good basketball practice routine for a guard?
This is what my coach made me do

dribble in between a number of chairs 5 times without messing up then pull up for a jump shot at the end of each. If you mess up start again.

While your working with the chairs im sure youll think of many other drills you can do. Also work on your jumper until you have the perfect form for you, the perfect release everything. Keep working on it until you MASTER it.

Thats what i did and still doing and i'm starting varsity for my highschool as a freshman. What is a good basketball practice routine for a guard?
This is a very good workout. The only issue is that you will not get into the game feeling with it. Since I run and play in touris a lot, but that mite not be the same for you. Do this workout out everyday for a month and you will be the most consistent player on your team.

    Shooting:

Grab 4 thin objects that wont blow in the wind (outside) or get in your way. Tape works well, but small rocks work best. Place the objects 3-4 feet part in a straight line along the corner, in between the key and the 3 point line. Start at the key, make 10 shot in a row, move back to the next spot and make 9, then 8, then 7, then 6, and finally 5 at the 3 point line. Do not use ur guide hand and focus on perfect form. If you are really good, make 4 in a row from NBA 3 range. Do this in 5 spots (2 corners, 2 wings, top of key) . If u r low on time, only do 3 spots, and make sure not to spend more than 20 minutes per spot. After 100 minutes, spend the last 20 shooting around with your normal shot.

There's a two hour workout right there. I then do lay up drills and dribbling drills. The lay up drills are pretty basic, and the dribbling drills are hard to explain without showing you personally.

What is the science behind not lifting weights as a teen basketball player boy or girl?

I've recently read some responses to a few questions. I'm looking for the data to back up the advice being given in regards to weight lifting. Again, why shouldn't teenage basketball players lift weights? Is it growth related? Does it have to do with growth plates? When should players begin to train with weights? What is the science behind not lifting weights as a teen basketball player boy or girl?
There is none, this is a myth, they say it leads to growth plate closure but this has been proven to be incorrect time and time again. Unless they are lifting like Ronnie Coleman weight training is not going to stunt their growth. The second myth is that lifting weights throws off the players shot. This is also false.

Lots of trainers told me the whole thing with weights stunning kids/teens growth is a complete MYTH!

    U can google it.

I was told 14 is the perfect time to start lifting.

Umm... but yeah it's a myth, u can read sports medicine books and they'll tell you the same.

some people argue that it might actually HELP your growth! (doubt it) because something to do with helping your blood circulation. What is the science behind not lifting weights as a teen basketball player boy or girl?
Until a teenager has stopped getting any taller, lifting weights is a generally bad idea because lifting heavy weights speeds up growth plate closure.

How do cellular respiration and breathing relate in reference to a basketball player taking a free throw?

Help! I don't understand this at all. Here is the original statement. (it was too long for the actual question)

"Breathing and cellular respiration are closely related. Describe how they are related in reference to a basketball player taking a free throw."How do cellular respiration and breathing relate in reference to a basketball player taking a free throw?
Breathing is related to cellular respiration in that it provides a mechanism for gas exchange (intake of oxygen and expulsion of carbon dioxide). The intake of oxygen is required for the process of cellular respiration, where oxygen acts as a final electron acceptor in aerobic cell resp.

As to your basketball player, when he bends his legs to take his free throw and he moves his arms (any sort of muscle contraction) this requires ATP, which is in turn generated by cell respiration, which is driven by external respiration (breathing). Thus, without breathing, a basketball player could only generate ATP anaerobically through lactic acid fermentation which could throw off his/her aim. Or more to the point, breathing provides the oxygen that is required for the player to generate ATP through cell respiration in order to move his/her muscles and also to expell carbon dioxide so that it does not build up in the body and impede preformance.

Sorry about the vague answer, the question confuses me as to what they want with the basketball player thrown in there.

How do i strengthen my wrist for basketball?

Any ideas? Im trying to shoot a basketball like a pro. Still cant flick the basketball off that far or high. When i shoot regularly i can shoot long distance but not accuracy. So im wonder how to strengthen my wrists so i can shoot rainbow style? Anyone know? Also. What are those things called were you have to squeeze the two v shaped handles that have a spring on the top?

Thanks! How do i strengthen my wrist for basketball?
First of all, no weights, no matter what everyone else says. Trust me, it may muck up your form.

Here's what you should do instead.

Lie on your back, with the ball in your shooting arm. Your other arm should be by your side.

Do the shooting motion while lying down. Make sure you straighten your arm and flick the wrist. Get the ball up as high as you can.

Catch the ball with your fingertips before it hits you/the ground.

    Repeat.

Is there medicine i can take I need help before next season because i can't keep doing this before every game. How can I stop vomiting before every basketball game?
I take it this is nerves as you're in the psychology section.

Yes, speak with your doctor. There is a medicine that you can take that should not affect your performance at all. It's given to politicians before speeches if they tend to get nervous. There are contraindications (people who can't take the medicine for various reasons), so ask your doc.

    It's called propranalol.

You might also try biofeedback or you could even listen to a CD called Anxiety Relief (Sounds True puts it out) that can teach you some tools to relax. How can I stop vomiting before every basketball game?
Have you ever been abused by a basketball?

What is the easiest Basketball position to play?

Personally, I think center is the easiest, but I don't know. What do you guys think the easiest Basketball position is?What is the easiest Basketball position to play?
it depends upon the system that is being employed and upon how you define hard. If hard is physical work or if it is decision making, or if it is some combination between the two of them.

Overall though i feel u are giving centers a bad rap. I don't know what position you play, i assume not center, but you may not be aware of the decisions, especially on defense, (for non-NBA centers) because outside the NBA zones that clog up the middle can be played, which i am sure u r aware of.

If u r referring to which position is easiest to learn i would agree with you and say center, but if ur asking what position is it easiest to be a dominant force at I would probably say that center is one of the hardest positions (hence why there are almost 0 good centers in the NBA) and that explains why oden is such a big deal.
small forward because all you do is shoot the ball and slash to the ring and make some 3's another good position is shooting guard. because its just like the small forward but you have to shoot more freethrows..What is the easiest Basketball position to play?
shootingguard like mcgrady and bryant have showed us all u need is the ball 30 times hit ten and get a shoe deal i mean point guards have to pass small forward usealy has to score and defend and big men got to score rebound and block
center is definitely the easiest, though none of them are 'easy'

but stillWhat is the easiest Basketball position to play?
Center is more based on size than any other position, so I agree with you.
I think the easiest position to play on any basketball team is fulfilling the role of the 12th man, sitting on the bench. Your most important job is to keep the bench warm for the players in the game on the chance that during the last 2 minutes, your team is either way ahead or far behind. In either case, you need to keep your seat warm for the player you go in for.
anyone who says center is dumb.i have played center for a long time and it is hard. its hard if u r a good center. U gotta have post moves and u got guys double teaming u and little guys fouling u but refs don't call it cuz of your size. U gotta rebound and if u don't rebound u always get the blame wether it wus ur man who didn't get boxed out or not. U also have to block shots and play help defense when a guy gets beat. Center is not the easiest so i would have to say it is shooting guard cuz all u do is dribble and shoot.
CENTER - you just block, dunk, and compete for some rebounds.
If the center is the easiest position to play, why are there not enough quality centers in the NBA? I bet you can not name the top six because the skill level is about equal after that ranking.

The easiest position to play is shooting guard/small forward because you shoot the most. Everybody wants to shoot the ball.
    the sports agent
It looks easy to play Center. But its not. I use to play center when i was younger, I hated it. If a opponents get a easy layup, you get the finger, if you miss a rebound you get the finger. You need to stick your man, watch out for screens, backdoor, and player penetrating, and get all the rebound. It is hard. There is no easy position, everyone one on the team has a role and it all fit to make a team win or even lose.

Compare to the position Center is because you need to tall and be strong not much athletism to be involved
Shooting guard is easiest. Your main responsibility on offense is to run away from whoever is guarding you.

There are no easy positions on defense.
point guard...the center is down low battling for rebounds
    From experience i'd say Center.
    Center
I don't think you can determine the easiest position in general. It all depends on what play you'll be running in the next offensive set or what the the opposing team will be setting up so you can determine your next defensive scheme.

For example, say you're running a basic princeton offense with a strong side mid-range decoy then the SG will be the easiest coz he just have to make it to a certain position while the SF or C sets the screen to the PF for a PG pass down low or alley-oop.

Defensively, if the opposing team runs the triangle then whoever is the focal point of the triangle which normally is the C then the defending C has the most difficult position.

So you can not determine the easiest position in general, it depends on what play is run.
Center is the easiest because most centers don't really have any basketball talent, they're just tall and wait down in the paint for somebody to throw them the ball so they can either slam it, or try some turn around jump shot. Shaq isn't even really talented. If he wasn't as big as he is, he wouldn't even be in the league anymore probably. You give me one player that Shaq could beat one on one. He's too slow to stop anybody, and he can't create his own shot without just backing you down with his girth and slamming on you.
No position is easier than the other. The point guard is an extension of the coach when he's on the court. The shooting guard has to be aggresive offensively and defensively. The small forward has to be a prime defender and rebounder. The power forward and center have to bang with other players under the basket throughout the game so they extend alot of energy.
Shooting guard. All you have to do is wait around for the rock, and launch it.
Personally I hink it is center. Since it is mainly based on brute strength and size and not skill level. Their main job is just to post up and spread the offense. The guards are the ones who have to handle the ball as is the small forward and in the new NBA even the power forward has to be able to dribble the ball, centers really don't. Neither do they have to shoot threes or make great passes.

Why is the US basketball team not that strong?

Hi, I am not really a basketball fan, nor do I know much about the sport. I just got into a conversation the other day with a friend of mine who claims something along the lines of "NBA players are not that interested in competing in international competitions and therefore the US team is not that strong" and that if the US decided to compete seriously, then it would very easily win. I don't believe this argument is true. I could not find anything online to support either view.. Any articles or views on that matter? Why is the US basketball team not that strong?
I look at it this way. NBA players play 82 games and most teams go on to the playoffs. The playoffs end in June and the season starts in October. That's not a whole lot of time to rest and enjoy the time off. I think most of America only cares about non-NBA basketball when it's the Olympics, and USA won the gold in China. Why is the US basketball team not that strong?
The US is the defending world champion and defending olympic gold medalist. How do those results lead you to believe our team is not that strong? The NBA season is very long and while some players think it is an honor to represent their country in international play, that is not really the priority of most players. In other countries it is different because the rival nations are much closer and the seasons are shorter.

NBA players are also extremely well paid by their NBA teams and feel more of a loyalty to the team that is paying them so mcuh than the country which is not. If the top American players in the NBA devoted themselves to USA basketball on a consistent basis instead of just having some of them do it when the big tournaments are happening they would almost never lose. Why is the US basketball team not that strong?
    Basketball is a team sport.

when you get different guys playing in different systems from all over america.

not everyone is going to be in sync with each other so it's hard to win...specially against foreigners who are trying to showcase their talents to get into the NBA or others who believe they are as good as NBA players.

if they got more time to build some chemistry...they would be unstoppable.

since the talent is there...but talent isn't enough....you need chemistry
the us just puts a bunch off all stars and they dont build a perfect team. this is a lineup id roll with.

How do you know when a basketball is fully pumped?

I was pumping my basketball and wanted to know, are there any tips on how to know when your basketball is ideally pumped? I remember my gym teacher telling me that if u let it go from you full height, it should bounce up to the waist or something like that; i'm not entirely sure. How do you know when a basketball is fully pumped?
Let it go from your head (Like you said) and while on it's way down bend your arm and have your elbow ''='' to the ground and if it bounces up to your elbow, it's pumped good. How do you know when a basketball is fully pumped?
The elbow test is what officials do to test a game ball. The rule book says that when it drops from 6 feet, it should bounce to 4 feet.

  • What is the best angle for one to throw a basketball?

Well, my project is to make a glasses for the coaches to measure their players' degree of angle when they throw the ball. The glasses will have a range where it is most ideal for the players to throw their ball. So can anyone help to give the best angle for throwing the basketball so I can include an angle range? Thank you. What is the best angle for one to throw a basketball?
    just practice your form
Im guessin 90What is the best angle for one to throw a basketball?
Angles have nothing to do with Basketball. You practice and then you get good. It really is that simple.
uhh every player has their own style of shooting, they release the ball from different angles. if u try t change that then they will struggle on making the shot.. let people shoot the way they want to even if its uglyWhat is the best angle for one to throw a basketball?
over-head, as high as you can streach
The "ideal" way is the the forearm and arm make a perfect 90 degree angle but in reality everybody shoots it how they are comfortable with. For example, Shawn Marion started playing basketball before he could even shoot and shot with two hands like little kids do so they can reach the basketb, it stuck with him and he still shoots like that while in the NBA, it's ugly as hell, but it's how he shoots.

Where can I find good pickup basketball in Seattle?

I recently moved to Seattle from Denver and I am having a hard time finding good basketball that isnt too far away from my home. I live just south of downtown (Mt Baker) and I have tried downtown YMCA and 24 hr fitness in Bellevue. Neither had great competition and the one in Bellevue didnt even have a full sized gym. I am also okay with a league if someone knows about basketball leagues.Where can I find good pickup basketball in Seattle?
why don't you look in parks and stuff. I'm not from there but you will find better competition on outdoor courts rather then inside ones. That's just from all my experience playing.

What are good some Toronto high schools with a great basketball team and high averages academically?

I'm in grade 8 right now, and am not so sure of my home school that everyone i know is going to...

I need to look into high schools with a good basketball team and high academics, in Toronto!

Any suggestions? What are good some Toronto high schools with a great basketball team and high averages academically?
You are in high school...life is about more then getting into a good school to play ball. You can play ball with parks and rec or with leagues (outside of school) after school. Go to a high school in your neighborhood that is committed to sending kids to good universities with no consideration to the shape of their b-ball team. What are good some Toronto high schools with a great basketball team and high averages academically?

What is a healthy weight to be to play freshman basketball?

Im 5'9" and 13. I plan on playing freshman basketball next year. What is a healthy weight to play power forward or center. What is a healthy weight to be to play freshman basketball?
Don't worry about your weight and if its 'perfect' for your position, just play well and be good.

Your shooting ability or first step speed is more important than your weight.
165-180 is good... u might want to try small forward though because your a good height for that. When I was a Freshman I was 5'10 200 and I played power forward but when I ran into kids that were 6'3 or 6'4 I had trouble. If you are going to play that position at that height you need to be a bruiser and get as many rebounds as you can. I used to score in between 5-10 points a game but would average 12-15 rebounds. Play hard do the dirty work on the boards down low and you will have a promising high school basketball career. What is a healthy weight to be to play freshman basketball?
yeah about 170 ...but it really depends on your game ...i just got done with my season as freshmen and i weighed 155 and 6'2 ...so my height put me at tht position ...but if your light..chances are your more quick in order to be a small forward you need a shot...i was a PF and i have a shot and i can post up... if you have speed height PF is perfect..but weight is the real big difference between....kevin garnett and shaq one can post up and play really big and one can handle the ball , shoot, and can post up with quick drop steps and turn around jumpers
youre not power forward or center height

it would probably be good to play a guard for your height nd i would worry about the weightWhat is a healthy weight to be to play freshman basketball?
if you grow couple inches in the summer you should weigh about 170 all muscle if you want to play center or power
    175

Is erecting a basketball court at the White House fiscally responsible?

Obama plans to put up a basketball court so he and his home boys have a place to play. Do you think this is a wise use of taxpayer money? Couldn't he just play at a local DC park?Is erecting a basketball court at the White House fiscally responsible?
The cost of protection would far exceed the cost to put up the court.

The White House has many recreation areas: bowling alley, movie theater, etc. This is nothing new.
Do you really think it's a safe or wise idea for the President of the US to just go out to any old street corner court? Is erecting a basketball court at the White House fiscally responsible?
Playing in the park would probably cost more in the long run, with security details and all.
No, it's more cost effective to build the court at the White House.

If Obama were to use a local part it would require dozens of minders and police to prevent terrorists and/or domestic assassins from trying to kill him, and it would require an entire park to be closed off to the tax payers. This is more expensive than just providing him with a court of his own.Is erecting a basketball court at the White House fiscally responsible?
The Wizards will be palying a couple of pre-season games there, so ticket sales should more than cover the costs.
there is a gym in the white house, so maybe he will just add some hoops, and I hope he would not go to a local park so considering they get an allowance to make things to their liking, its money already there.
It will be okay. No he cannot play in the park. I am sure there will be more money wasted by our government on more foolish things.

  • How often should I go practice to be a good basketball player?

I always was a bad player and I'm now only starting to become an average one. How often should I practice to be a good dribbler, generally get better, and don't let my shooting get rusty? Should it be like 2 times a week? 3 times a week? Every other day? EVERY day? By the way, I'm not asking which ones is best for me, I'm just asking which one is necessary in order to be good at basketball. How often should I go practice to be a good basketball player?
michael jordan practiced 6 hours a day, nuff said...but if you really want to be a good basketball player, i suggest so you practice wit your friends so can learn from them and you might be able to teach them a thing or two as well, its alot easier to improve if your used to having someone to compete with so you can challenge each other and learn from each others mistakes...goodluck!

atleast 3-4 hours of practice a day would be enough to improve your game...
Quite simply - all day, every day. Well, not ALL day, but at least an hour. I used to be a horrible basketball player but got inspired after my Pistons won the title in '04. I played every day for at least 2 hours and got to the point where I could play with just about anyone (not necessarily anyone one-on-one but in a team setting). All you have to do is practice your jumper and it will be surprisingly reliable. I never became GREAT at dribbling; I could still take it to the basket but I'd suggest some sort of dribbling routine without shooting to get really good. It's a great way to get in shape without working out. That said, your legs will take care of themselves but you will still need to build up upper-body strength in the weight room. And if you start slacking even a little you will get rusty so go at it as much as you can. Sorry for such a long answer, but I hope I helped you out.How often should I go practice to be a good basketball player?
Thats an easy questionif you want to be the best you dont only practice day and night you do research and visual practice which is watching the games and copying the pro's moves if you want to be good not best but good 5 times a week

Since im a good basketball player i practiced so hard when i was a kid i would spend in the holidays maybe 3 hours a day (in different proportions)

Just practice, research, practice, research, practice, research
if you want to be good i guess 3 times a week but if u want to be on your high school team, high school teams practice every day, so...but to be good i guess 3 times a weekHow often should I go practice to be a good basketball player?
i have been playing basket ball for 4 years now. my friends got me into it. when i first started my friend beat me in a 1 on 1 game 10 - 1. i was humiliated. i practiced every day 2 - 4 hours even in the rain. (my mom called me crazy). i broke two pair of sneakers (they literally fell apart). A year later i beat my friend 32 - 24.
Every day. Thats what I do and I play high school ball. Work on lay-ups. Running. Condition your self! Cross overs, getting has high has you can (to da rim, not da drug lawl). BUT! Seriously man, don't burn yourself, just keep shooting.
I practice everyday. I don't do drills but i shoot around, dribble around my neighborhood, and play with my friends pretty much everyday for hours.
dnt yuh practice at school????den dats 5x a week...practice wenever yuh can, dats how i become a great basketball player...no joke lol
    How often you ask?

    Every damn day.
depends on how good u wnna get and be

How do I go about getting recruited by colleges for basketball?

I'm a pretty good player, just not a phenom by any means. I'm a sophomore in highschool right now and I think I could play basketball in college. What do I do to get schools to notice me?How do I go about getting recruited by colleges for basketball?
Talk to your athletic director and guidence counselor about this. After that think about what colleges you think might realistic be interested in you and start visiting them. See if you can talk to any members of the basketball coaching staff. Also make yourself a highlight tape of your best moments from your high school games that you can send to colleges to show what you have to offer to their program.
i have the same problem i'm a freshmen, played varsity, scored 10 points a game with 5 assists, make tapesHow do I go about getting recruited by colleges for basketball?
    Be 7 feet tall.
Now is the time to start a personal achievement chart. You need to include such things as academic scores, community service you have done, your history of sports, and your coach should have alot of information. You also need to write all kinds of colleges telling them to come watch you play!!!!!How do I go about getting recruited by colleges for basketball?
I think breaking a lot of records or doing some pretty crazy stuff will get you noticed in high school. Otherwise, you're going to have to contact schools that you're interested in first.
Get awards from your team, like MVP, or at least score lots of points. Take your team to state or nationals.

    But. That might not happen.

You can still get sports scholarships, etc., by just applying to schools. Be sure to put your awards and such on your application.
Tell your coach to make tapes of your best highlights and go to camps that are for special colleges....

    Also have a good GPA..and

    light it up during season...

How to post up good in basketball?

I can drive in really well and take the contact like it was nothing for the AND1, but for my height compared to teammates (I'm 5'10- 6'), I should post up commonly for my current basketball position to them (PF-C). Answer my other question about my basketball position as well if you want, thanks.

    How do you hook?

What to do when there's a double team?

How do you get space when posting up?How to post up good in basketball?
when you hook use a spin move works for me and im 5'6

when theres a double team dont look at the floor or turn your back look up and find that 1 open man.

when you create space have your back towards your oppenent and just keep bumping in to him this will allow you to get a gap and a shot. How to post up good in basketball?
to post up, you have to have a wide stance. This means, your feet should be a fair distance apart from each other. This will help your balance. Also, you should stay low, don't hunch over and keep your back straight. Your arms should be ready for the ball so keep them up. some people actually sit on the person defending you, (kinda like leaning). Just be careful not to lose your balance if they move. If you want to do a hook shot, im pretty sure Youtube can help you with that. When there's a double team, i would quickly pass it to a near by guard for the shot, or strong drive to the hoop. Lastly, if you want to get space, you have to make sure you have a decent area to receive the ball. Make sure you seal the person first. It would also be helpful to jump to the ball, instead of waiting for it to come. It'll create less of a chance of getting it stolen. Square up to the basket, should create some space, and if it doesn't the person is probably too close. (which you could probably drive by)How to post up good in basketball?

Why Cant i play soocer and basketball and still be good in both sides?

I am an Soccer player Now Before i was an basketball player , and now people are telling me that i cant play both sports , i have to choose soccer or basketball. Why Cant i play soocer and basketball and still be good in both sides?
no one is stopping you to play both sports. but in order to excel in one, you have to forgo the other. otherwise, you could end up a jack of all trades, master on none.
Pick a sport you good at, the focus. Just keep practicing and playing. Why Cant i play soocer and basketball and still be good in both sides?
man if you good in both you can play both soccor in fall n basketball in winter so split it up or play both i ran cross country and played football
As long as there is no overlap, do them both. If there is an overlap, commit to one or the other. Why Cant i play soocer and basketball and still be good in both sides?
To be good at a sport, you will have to spend a lot of time on it. It's always practice makes perfect.

Now if you're sure you won't get too tired practicing at both sports, then go ahead.
Don't listen to others. What the hell they know? when i was in high school, I did three sports and did them well. Got hurt and was told I would never play again. I never listen and I was still able to play.
There is a distinct reason for this. The muscles in your body have been trained to be able to stride out. The way your muscles developed with soccer it is more tuned for running. Its more of an ability to go forward and not up. With basketball you are with more of an enthesis on up and not forward as much. Granted you will sprint but the muscle memory will prevent the ability from doing both very well. If it was another sport like football or cross country that was a bit more complementary it would be much better and easier for you to do. But due to the fact that you need power muscles over lean endurance muscles for this one. If you want a better explanation on this one talk to your coach for basketball to explain the muscle development.
    listen,

keep playing both the games and concentrate more on the one you are good at!

if u dont know which one u r gud at then keep playing until someone encourages or discourages u...

if someone encourages u in soccer then keep going on it and u could also practice basketball...

if u c have been encouraged in both then its all up to u which one u should pick!!

    LUCK PICK!! haha

    MY FAV IS SOCCER...

actually when i started playing soccer,

i kept concentrating and practicing on it,

then in my school they did not have a soccer playing extra activity but they had basketball and many other like science club and stuff!

but then most of my friends took basketball as it was the only one best out of the others!

so we went for it and then slowly my concentration went on b'ball and concentration went from football...

then we started to bunk in those b'ball extra activity and started to stay in the class and play football with a tennis ball in the class!

we all kept an excuse with us as we just loved footballso we just wanted to play that!

so every activity period all of us went to the other class (8b)....(im in 8a) and then after every one went for their activities, we started playing football there and I GAINED MY CONCENTRATION ON FOOTBALL ONCE AGAIN AND NOW IM TOO GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!

Pro basketball started in 1898, however, there were no superstar players until the 1920's. I'll name a few:

    Joe Lapchick

    Dutch Denhert

    Nat Holman

    John Beckman

    Charles "Tarzan" Cooper

These weren't the first official superstars but they were the superstars of that time.
haha...basketball was definitely not invented in 1946.

In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith,[1] a Canadian physical education student and instructor at YMCA Training School[2] (today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters to keep the students in shape.

The first official game was played in the YMCA gymnasium on January 20, 1892 with nine players and the game ended at 1-0 and the shot was made from 25 feet

    Women's basketball began in 1892.

The first pro league, the National Basketball League, was formed in 1898 to protect players from exploitation and to promote a less rough gameWhen did pro basketball start what year and was there any superstars?
basketball was invented in 1946, the ABA was founded by Murice Loofer in 1957. The ABA later combined with NBA to form the league today in late 60's.

Not really sure about superstars, doubt they even have that word back then, but you can probably search who is the 1st player named to the 50 greatest player.
Right after WW2, the pro league started. Mikan was the first pro superstar coz' before him the league was not as recognized yet as baseball. He was the white 7 feet behemoth, unstoppable until the very first black superstar, Russell, came %26amp; dominated basketball for a decade. If ya can buy a cd NBA at 50, it will prove what I mean. You'd enjoy it to thae max

Good times broWhen did pro basketball start what year and was there any superstars?
The NBL (National basketball league) started in 1937, and continued until the NBA began in 1947. There were also leagues in Pennsylvania in 1910s and 20s, but as far as superstars, there's no names I can recognize as well as Mikan's.
the NBA started in 1946. the first superstar was george mikan of the minneapolis lakers. he dominated the 1950s.
George Mikan, first great Center, he played for the Lakers from the inception of the NBA in 1946 to the mid 50's i believe

How to shoot basketball over taller defenders?

Hi. I need help on how to shoot a basketball over taller people. Everytime i try, i always get blocked. How can i prevent this from happening and are their any good exercises to do?How to shoot basketball over taller defenders?
There's a number of things you can do.

First, use what you have. If you are thick, you can draw contact and create space to shoot.

Two, work your opponent. Try him outside. If he gets tight on your outside shot, take him inside. Use your teammates by passing to get him off balance.

Three, and I see this WAY too much, do not drive into the defense when you are already open to shoot. Make defenders work. Don't make it easy by driving into their faces and then shooting. Make them guard you.

Four, I don't know where this went, but smaller guys used to use a driving hook. This brings the ball back from the defender and allows you to shoot in motion. Try it --- if you can get accurate with it, it's a good tool to keep in the box. Magic Johnson used it.
Being a quality shooter and having to face taller opponents, you have to make sure you first create some space between you and the defender and you gotta make sure you have a high arching release similar to Ben Gordon's shot. Your arms should be str8 up as you release the ball as to be on an angle going forward. That should help you shoot over taller defenders. The best way to make this your natural form is by shooting over 100-200 jumpshots using the high arching form a day and before you know it, it'll be instinctive as to you having to think about it.How to shoot basketball over taller defenders?
I am short and I get my shot off over taller people all the time. I use the underhand scoop and keep the ball low or the teardrop (floater). The floater works well in the lane. Watch Iverson. He is short and uses the scoop and teardrop a lot.
I'd go with a head fake/ pump fake. Also, if you show your defender that you have no fear and will drive to the hoop, he may respect that more and play off of you in fear of you dribbling by him. Once that happens, you'll get better looks at open shots. Keep moving and working to get open shots too.How to shoot basketball over taller defenders?
break their ankles and then dunk on their face
My best answer is to fake them out, and use quickness. You have an advantage if you are a lot shorter. You're lower to the ground, and you can get under him, and around, the smaller you are the more you can get around a bigger guy...for the most part. Just fake shoot, go under his arms, and use what space you have. Hope that helps.
Either go with a pump fake or blow their slow and doofy a** away with a crossover.

You could go with a "Freezer" which is when you jump as high as you can and hold the ball in your shooting form for like a second and then release the ball. It will most likely throw the tall kid off guard
when u shoot, like pump fake it. so they will jump ahead before u jump. then make ur shot. but if u didnt bounce the ball then when u pump fake and when they jump go around them and make a shot. thats all man.
You've gotta get them to leave their feet with a head fake or a shot fake. Then when they are off of their feet you can:

    1. Shoot over them with your regular shot, or

    2. Move around them by keeping your pivot foot planted, and taking a step with your other foot. Then shoot with a little finger-roll/scoop shot or just use your regular shot.

Are you asking how to shoot over people from a stand-still position or from a triple-threat position? This is important, as your options are very different depending on whether or not you have picked up your dribble, or if you have just received the ball from a pass and still have the option to dribble. Do you see the difference?

As a rule, don't pick up your dribble if you are not ready to pass or shoot. If you are dribbling and there is a tall player in front of you ready to block your shot, then for goodness' sake don't stop dribbling!!! Just because you're shorter doesn't mean that you will be quicker than a taller player. I'm 6'2", but I am definitely as quick as my friend that's only 5'8". Regardless of speed, or perhaps inclusive of speed, basketball is first and foremost a game about creating space. You have to somehow get enough space when you shoot so that you won't be blocked. A tall guy already has this space because he is taller to begin with. So you have to develop something to gain this advantage back and create space for yourself. You can do it with quickness, with shot/head fakes, with a spin move, etc., etc. You just need to figure out your greatest strength and keep going back to that. Maybe you have superb endurance and can run guys all over the court, so that they get sick of chasing you and end up letting you get away from them too often. Whatever your advantage is, figure it out and use it to get good shots.
    Watch Ben Gordon play. =)
try the teardrop. mark jackson former player of the pacers, knicks, denver(?), etc. lol.. always uses it..it was funny but effective.. he usually penetrates in the middle the suddenly stop to shoot a one handed quick lob shot.. i also take those kind of shots when i play... and thankfully i not always at the wrong side of a blocked shot.. lol
